Xarelto Injury Lawsuit Attorneys

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a blood thinner used to slow the blood clotting process. It is primarily prescribed for patients who have had knee or hip replacement surgery to prevent pulmonary embolisms and deep vein thrombosis, which are two types of very serious blood clots. It is also prescribed for people with atrial fibrillation (A-fib).

Xarelto is manufactured by Bayer Healthcare AG and is marketed by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals. The FDA approved Xarelto for sale in the U.S. in 2011.

Xarelto Injuries

The FDA received more than 2,000 reports of serious Xarelto injuries by the end of 2012. Patients taking the drug suffered serious uncontrollable bleeding emergencies, dangerous blood clots from premature discontinuation of the drug, and death. More than 150 Xarelto related deaths were reported to the FDA in 2012.

The FDA added a black box warning for an increased risk of blood clots for Xarelto patients based on data gathered in adverse event reports in 2013. A few months later, the agency added an additional Xarelto drug warning related to a lack of antidote or reversal agent.

The lack of an existing reversal agent increases the chances that a patient who experiences a bleeding event may suffer a critical injury or death as healthcare professionals have no way to control the blood loss. Internal bleeding caused by falls and other accidents can pose a very serious threat to patients taking Xarelto.

Xarelto Lawsuits

Families of patients who died as a result of fatal bleeding incidents involving Xarelto have filed wrongful death lawsuits against the manufacturer of this drug. Additional Xarelto lawsuits have been filed by patients claiming injuries such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and serious internal bleeding.

If you have a question about a Xarelto lawsuit, contact us. Our firm is investigating claims from patients who have taken the drug and suffered serious bleeding injuries as well as harmful blood clots including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms. Our product liability attorneys have experience litigating claims against large corporations and pharmaceutical manufacturers and can provide you with free case evaluation.
