What Happened at Kiddie Academy of Fishers?
In March 2023, toddlers between 14-19 months old experienced severe abuse while enrolled in the daycare’s toddler program. One employee, Molly Taxter, is accused of engaging in repeated physical and emotional abuse. The allegations include throwing, kicking, and dragging toddlers, as well as forcing them into timeouts against company policy. Another employee, Megan Weber, witnessed these acts but failed to report them.
Despite having video surveillance in place, Kiddie Academy failed to monitor the feeds or notice the abuse, allowing it to continue unchecked. It wasn’t until a parent discovered bruises on her child that authorities were alerted, and an investigation began. By that point, the damage to the children had already been done.
Impact on the Families
The abuse these toddlers endured has left lasting scars. Physically, the children suffered injuries ranging from bruises to a traumatic brain injury. Emotionally, the harm is equally profound, with many of the children developing separation anxiety, fear of everyday activities like diaper changes, and delays in speech and social skills.
For their parents, the discovery of this abuse has been devastating. These families entrusted their children to Kiddie Academy, believing they would be safe. Instead, they now face emotional trauma and the financial burden of medical and therapy expenses to help their children recover.
Kiddie Academy’s Responsibility
Kiddie Academy must be held accountable for failing to protect these vulnerable children. They had a duty to ensure that their employees were properly vetted, trained, and supervised. Instead, they hired an employee with a troubling history, ignored warning signs of abuse, and failed to enforce basic safety measures like monitoring classroom video feeds.
