Former Franklin Schools Track Coach Charged with Child Seduction

James Eli Betts, a former assistant coach for Franklin Community High School girls and boys track has been arrested after a former student reported Betts sexually abused her when she was 16 years old. The former student reported that Betts fondled her and forced her to have sexual intercourse. Betts is currently charged with four counts of child seduction.

Betts coached track for Franklin Community Schools from 2013-2015. The former student claims the sexual abuse occurred in 2014. Betts returned to the Franklin Community Schools track coaching staff in February 2021 and was terminated on April 5, 2021 after the abuse was reported, according to a statement from the school corporation.
