Catholic Church Sexual Abuse Claims Include Nuns as Perpetrators

At the same time that Catholic Church bishops across the United States gather to hold a retreat to pray about the sex abuse crisis causing upheaval in the church, reports have surfaced that include nuns among the clergy members accused of sexual abuse.

CBS News reported several women have come forward with claims of sexual abuse perpetrated by nuns. According to one investigation, a nun accused of sexually abusing a child was removed from her position as a school administrator but remained with the church even after an out-of-court settlement was reached between the church and the sexual abuse survivor.  This pattern is eerily similar to that of priests and other clergy within the Catholic Church who were accused of molestation. Another account involved a nun sexually abusing another nun who left ended up leaving the Catholic Church and shared that she struggles with post- traumatic stress disorder as a result of the abuse.

Cohen & Malad, LLP attorneys have represented numerous sexual abuse survivors in lawsuits against churches, schools, residential care facilities, and family members. We understand the sensitive nature of these lawsuits and prioritize our clients’ privacy and trust while fighting to get them the compensation they need to assist them in healing from sexual abuse and coping with emotional impact the abuse has on their life. If you, your child, or someone else you know is a victim of sexual abuse or molestation, contact us.
