$5.5 Million Awarded in Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuit Against C.R. Bard

A California couple won a first of its kind verdict against C.R. Bard, the manufacturer of Avaulta Mesh. The jury awarded the couple $5.5 million for damages against the manufacturer of the device claiming that it knew that the mesh implant was not safe to use and failed to warn doctors and patients of the risk.

Doctors began using vaginal mesh implants to support the pelvic organs in the late 1990s. Between 2005 and 2010, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) received almost 4,000 reports from women who experienced complications and injury from the use of vaginal mesh devices. Complaints included vaginal mesh erosion, pain, infection, urinary problems, bleeding, and organ perforation.

C.R. Bard is just one manufacturer of vaginal mesh implants that is facing lawsuits by women who have been injured by these medical devices. Other manufacturers such as Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon Unit, Boston Scientific, and American Medical Systems are also being sued by women who allege that the mesh products have caused severe injury.

Over 600 lawsuits have been filed by women who claim injuries as a result of vaginal mesh products. If you or a loved one received a vaginal mesh implant and has suffered an injury, contact us. Our personal injury product liability attorneys have experience litigating cases involving dangerous medical devices and are accepting clients with claims for vaginal mesh injuries.
