Cohen & Malad, LLP filed a class action lawsuit against Medical Informatics Engineering, Inc. (MIE) on July 29, 2015 following a massive data breach compromised personal medical records of nearly 3.9 million people. MIE announced on June 2, 2015 that it was the subject of a data breach that began on May 7, 2015. The company stated that personal information that contained names, addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers, as well as protected health information was stolen by cyber thieves. Protected health information includes sensitive information such as lab results, diagnoses, medical conditions, and health insurance policy information.

Medical Informatics Engineering Inc., Data Breach Lawsuits Transferred to Indiana

On Thursday, December 10, 2015, the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation transferred numerous lawsuits filed against Medical Informatics Engineering Inc., (MIE) to the Northern District of Indiana. Nearly 3.9 million people had their personal information exposed to thieves when MIE’s client database was accessed by unauthorized third parties in May 2015. MIE reported that sensitive information including patient names, addresses, social security numbers, dates of birth, and protected health information was all accessed placing millions of people at risk for identity theft and medical identity theft.
