Shepherd Insurance Data Breach Exposes Private Information of over 6K Consumers

CohenMalad, LLP is actively investigating a significant data breach involving Shepherd Insurance, headquartered in Carmel, Indiana. The breach, which lasted for two weeks undetected, allowed hackers steal the personal information of 6,381 individuals.

Significant Private Information Compromised

Between July 11 and July 29, 2024, unauthorized individuals gained access to an employee’s email account at Shepherd Insurance and accessed private information stored by the company.

Upon discovering the breach, the Shepherd Insurance initiated an investigation with external cybersecurity experts to assess the extent of the compromise. The investigation concluded on March 10, 2025, revealing that the compromised email account contained sensitive personal information.
