Race & Sexual Assault

Race & Sexual Assault

Episode 3 – Interview with Courtney Curtis

Today, Shaunestte is talking with Courtney Curtis, Assistant Executive Director for the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council (IPAC) about how racial bias has played a role in the way that sex crimes against Black women have been handled from the reporting stage through the prosecution of the crime and the need to not only educate but also advocate for change to combat systemic racism.

Courtney Curtis is an attorney and trains Indiana prosecuting attorneys from 91 counties in trial procedures on behalf of IPAC in her role as Assistant Executive Director. Prior to her role at IPAC, Ms. Curtis served as the Division Chief of the Special Victims Team for the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office overseeing 27 attorneys and 4 assistant supervisors in handling cases involving sexual assault, child molestation, and human trafficking. Ms. Curtis served as Chair for the Marion County Child Fatality Review and was co-leader of the Child Fatality Trial Team. She has trained for the states of Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana and Indiana in the areas of Trial Advocacy, Homicide, Sexual Assault, Child Molestation, and Domestic Violence.
