Cohen & Malad Representing Patients of Dr. Ed Harlamert in Medical Malpractice Lawsuits

By GNGF

Cohen & Malad is actively investigating cases of medical malpractice against Indiana cardiologist Dr. Ed Harlamert. We have uncovered cases where Dr. Harlamert subjected his patients to excessive and unwarranted treatment — in some instances over 60 heart catheterizations and 40 stents while under his care.

Our attorneys currently represent numerous patients in lawsuits involving fraudulent diagnosis and unnecessary procedures, such as:

  • Heart Catheterizations
  • Coronary Stenting
  • Coronary Artery Laser Atherectomies
  • Heart Bypass Recommendations

Dr. Harlamert’s employment and hospital privileges were terminated by IU Health in 2017. He was subsequently escorted out of his office by IU Health security.

Our investigation revealed the termination followed months-long assessments of Dr. Harlamert’s conduct. These reviews were ordered by the head of IU Health Cardiology when hospital reporting metrics showed Dr. Harlamert was consistently performing a remarkably high number of catheterizations and interventions on patients.

Following IU Health’s determination that Harlamert repeatedly performed unnecessary cardiac procedures, neither Dr. Harlamert or IU Health informed patients about the reasons for his termination.

Later in 2017, Dr. Harlamert was named Chief of Cardiology at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, Indiana. Witham appears to have failed to properly investigate Dr. Harlamert during the hiring process. Though his IU Health supervisors have testified that they would have candidly shared concern over past improper practices, Witham never asked them about Dr. Harlamert’s professional conduct.

Dr. Harlamert has treated patients for over 30 years and practiced at multiple hospitals in central Indiana, including:

  • Witham Memorial Hospital
  • Indiana University Health Saxony
  • Indiana University North Medical Center
  • The Indiana Heart Hospital
  • Community Hospitals of Indianapolis

If you or someone you know underwent cardiac treatment by Dr. Ed Harlamert, contact us so that the care and treatment can be evaluated. We can provide a free case evaluation and discuss legal rights and options.

Cohen and Malad’s attorneys are highly skilled in medical malpractice litigation. Our team recently represented over 260 patients of a Northwest Indiana cardiology group involving claims of unnecessary heart procedures and device implantations, resulting in a settlement of $66.5 million.

Our attorneys will fight for you and your family, and give power to your voice.
