Arend has practiced in a variety of law firm and governmental settings since his admission to the bar in 1986. He began his career as a law clerk to U.S. Senior Circuit Judge Jesse Eschbach. Following that experience, he worked for five years conducting complex business litigation for one of the state's largest firms.
In 1993, he joined the senior staff of former Indiana attorney general Pamela Carter as special counsel, with responsibility for the State's Supreme Court practice.
He returned to the private sector in 1996, and since then, has focused on representing businesses and governmental entities in complex litigation and appeals.
Arend represents clients at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts. His practice includes the following areas of law:
Arend Abel was born in Muncie, Indiana, in 1960. He grew up in Union City, Indiana, and graduated from Union City Community High School in 1978.
Arend graduated with honors from Ball State University in 1982, where he was a National Merit Scholar and Whitinger Scholar. Following graduation, he taught high school for a year before attending Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington. He graduated with honors there also, and was a member of the school's national moot court team, as well as an Edwards Fellow and Vice-Presidential Scholar.
Arend's hobbies include gardening and fine wines. Arend has been active in the community, particularly in school matters. He is a former president and board member of the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township Parent Council.
